The extravagance and drama of 15th and 16th century England was brought to life in the latest collection of international Filipino designer Furne One (pronounced oh-nay) dubbed “War and Roses.”
One’s new collection was showcased in his very first Philippine gala, “First of One – A Fashion Collection by Furne One” held recently at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel. The unveiling of the 50+ ensemble was witnessed by Manila’s Who’s Who, composed of noted fashionistas and society personalities and some of tinseltown’s top stars.
For his latest collection, the Dubai-based One took inspiration from Queen Elizabeth I, the matriarch of the Golden Age of England in the 15th to 16th century. Each piece from the collection depicted a queenly look defined by structured shapes and ornate finery that were richly decorated and armor-like, bringing to mind the Virgin Queen’s status not only as a sovereign ruler, but also as a strategist and warrior.
Models worked the runway by evoking a look and feel that was majestic and regal. The creations highlighted lavish and intricate details, perfectly captured on the beadwork, embroidery, and symbols of monarchy that were richly embellished with Swarovski crystals.
Adding to the majestic allure of the collection were hand-painted images of women with royal heritage, which were featured on classic silhouettes that were made a little edgier by structured accents.
Touches of gold and silver, the shades of royalty, were slightly tamed by light earth tones that gave a certain softness to the collection. These subtle classy hues – nude, beige, cream, and eggshell white -- hinted grace, serenity, delicate femininity, quiet strength and nobility, which perfectly captured Queen Elizabeth’s personality. Complementing these shades were darker hues of olivine and sepia, which added more drama and elegance to each piece.
